Introducing Performance Linen: Beautiful Fabric Designed for the Way We Live
There is always a balance in interior design between choosing something because it's beautiful and choosing something because it needs to work beautifully within a home.
The best materials do both.
That's what led us to introduce Performance Linen, our newest fabric by the yard at Truett. Designed for upholstery, drapery, pillows, and other decorative applications, Performance Linen allows our original artwork to live comfortably in some of the most used spaces in a home.
For me, that was important. I've always believed beautiful rooms should be lived in. A favorite chair should actually be sat in. Draperies should frame the windows where a family watches the seasons change. Pillows should be moved, layered, leaned against, and enjoyed.
Our new Performance Linen was selected with exactly that kind of living in mind.
A Performance Fabric with a Refined Point of View
Performance fabric has traditionally been associated with practicality first and beauty second. Thankfully, that distinction has changed.
Today's interiors call for materials that can stand up to everyday life without sacrificing the character and warmth that make a room feel personal.
Our Performance Linen has the same look as feel as a linen blend fabric but versatility designers appreciate for projects where durability matters. It provides a beautiful ground for our original artwork while offering another option alongside our Cotton/Linen Blend and Velvet Shimmer fabrics.
The result is a fabric that feels at home in a carefully considered living room, a bedroom layered in pattern, or a family space designed to be genuinely enjoyed.
For interior designers, it also means greater flexibility when specifying Truett collections throughout a project.

Designed for Upholstery
One of the reasons we were particularly excited to introduce Performance Linen was upholstery.
Patterned upholstery has an extraordinary ability to give a room personality. A pair of swivel chairs, an occasional chair, a bench, or a beautifully upholstered headboard can become the element that pulls an entire space together.
But upholstery also has to live differently than many decorative textiles.
Our Performance Linen gives designers the opportunity to bring Truett's original artwork to upholstered pieces while choosing a fabric ground developed with performance in mind.
Patterns such as Wildflowers, Trees, Cottage Garden, and our many stripes can take on an entirely different character when used on upholstery. Scale becomes especially interesting here. A larger repeat can turn a chair into an almost canvas-like expression of the artwork, while a smaller repeat creates rhythm and movement across the piece.
Designer Perspective
When specifying a patterned upholstery fabric, consider the entire piece of furniture rather than looking at the textile only as a swatch. The scale of the pattern, placement of the artwork, silhouette of the furniture, and surrounding textiles all influence the finished result.
Performance Linen for Drapery
Drapery is another place where artwork can completely change the feeling of a room.
There is something especially beautiful about seeing a pattern move from a small fabric sample to full-length drapery. The artwork takes on a new rhythm as it falls into folds, frames a window, and interacts with natural light throughout the day.
Performance Linen provides another option for designers who want to carry a Truett pattern onto custom window treatments while maintaining a practical approach to the overall project.
Botanicals and abstract florals can create wonderfully expressive drapery, while stripes introduce a more tailored architectural quality. And because many of our collections are available in different scales and colorways, designers can consider not only the pattern itself but how much movement or presence they want the drapery to bring into the room.
This is where fabric becomes more than a finishing detail. It becomes part of the architecture of the interior.
Made for Layering
One of my favorite things about textiles is seeing how designers layer them.
The most interesting rooms rarely rely on a single pattern. They combine scale, color, texture, artwork, antiques, and materials collected over time.
Performance Linen makes it possible to use our collections across upholstery, drapery, and decorative pillows, creating opportunities to carry a pattern through a room or pair it with another Truett design.
A larger floral might be used on drapery, for example, with a smaller-scale pattern on an upholstered chair. A stripe can provide structure alongside a more expressive botanical. Sometimes the most unexpected pairings are the ones that make a room feel the most personal.
Rather than matching everything, I prefer rooms that feel as though they have evolved naturally.
Fabric gives designers tremendous freedom to create that kind of layering.
Original Artwork, A New Ground
Although Performance Linen is new to Truett, the philosophy behind it isn't.
Every one of our patterns begins as original artwork. What starts with paint and a brush in my studio is eventually translated across wallpaper, fabric, pillows, bedding, and other pieces for the home.
Choosing the right ground is an important part of that process because each material allows the artwork to be experienced differently.
Our Cotton/Linen Blend has its own natural character. Velvet Shimmer brings richness and depth. Performance Linen offers something different again: a versatile performance option designed for interiors where beauty and everyday living need to coexist.
And importantly, Performance Linen is available across every Truett collection, giving designers the freedom to select the artwork and colorway that best suits their project rather than being limited to a small assortment of performance patterns.

Designed to Be Lived With
I never want someone to walk into a room filled with Truett and feel as though they shouldn't touch anything.
Quite the opposite.
I want our designs to become part of the way people actually live: the chair everyone gravitates toward, the bedroom that feels like a retreat, the drapery that changes beautifully with the afternoon light.
Performance Linen gives us another way to create those spaces.
It's a practical addition to our fabric collection, certainly, but it's also an extension of something I've believed from the beginning: beautiful design doesn't need to be precious.
It should be personal, thoughtfully made, and ready to become part of everyday life.
Our Performance Linen fabric by the yard is available across every Truett collection for upholstery, drapery, pillows, and beautifully layered interiors.
Because the rooms we love most aren't simply meant to be looked at.
They're meant to be lived in.
